Officials want to boost the island’s tourism-reliant economy as recovery efforts continue in West Maui. Many locals disagree.
After thedisastrous wildfire that devastated Hawaii ’s Maui , Hawaii politicians and officials are cheer tourists to come back to the island — minus some areas .
Hawaii Governor Josh Green want to be percipient . West Maui — where Lahaina is located and where the wildfire did the most scathe — is still to be avoid . However , the residue of the island is and should remain open , and change of location is encouraged in rules of order to help lighten the saving and Maui ’s overall wellbeing .
" No one can travel to West Maui right now . We will share when that is possible again . Only bring back residents and authorized pinch relief worker should derive here now . But all of the other region of Maui … and the rest of Hawaiii are secure , " Governor Green said in a financial statement . " When you come , you will support our local economy and help speed the recovery of the people that are suffering right now . "
