A small, but growing group of conservation photography tours aims to connect travelers and animal habitats with the purpose of protecting them.
Ask Scott Trageser to clean a favorite insect , and he ’ll require a second . “ It changes every calendar week , ” says the preservation life scientist and president of the Tucson , Arizona – basedBiodiversity Group . For him , it ’s usually the one on an expedition that makes him blockade and say , “ Why does this exist ? ”
He ’s attract to the “ eldritch , usually unloved , and unrecognized , ” a taste that , not coincidently , the Biodiversity Group also shares . Founded more than two decades ago , the nonprofit ’s missionary post is to nurture a thriving preservation sphere — from connecting far - flung nonprofit with funding and supporting inquiry to document lost or unexplored metal money through picture taking . It ’s less about the fuzzy and universally adore creatures of the world and more about the prickly or slithery guys hiding in its fracture . ( Tagline : “ We Protect Life Overlooked . ” ) To date , it has documented 100,000 mintage for conservation and enquiry aim and discovered more than 40 never realise before .
