I have intercourse being out of doors — I’m outdoors any chance I can be , for as long as I can be , every day . There ’s the forcible training component of it , and there ’s a meditative element to it that is so important . Really , it boil down to being alone in nature . And I can not live a life without that .
I do n’t understand the earbud / headset thing when people are out hike up , skiing , or anything like it . I get that people want to listen to music . But to me , that ’s missing the whole point . you could listen to euphony in your car . you’re able to listen to euphony in your kitchen . you’re able to listen to euphony any time . But the sound or want of it — it ’s not even really a lack , there ’s plenty to listen to out in nature — is something that I think a lot of people are missing out on in today ’s world .
Being here inSanta Barbara , the thing I love most is that there are so many ripe salary increase and trail head that are so well approachable and they all connect . It ’s not inevitably that one is any better than the other . I recently came uponFranklin CanyoninLA , which is up inBeverly Hills , and it ’s the best . I hate being in the city and , now , you’re able to be surrounded by bobcats and bears and everything . It ’s good for my soul .

I ’m an zealous skier . That ’s plausibly the thing I do the serious . Hiking up somewhere to ski downis the ultimate goal for me . You have n’t fully hiked until you ’ve done it in ski boots , carry your skis at altitude .
But my favored hike is the trek toMachu Picchu . you’re able to take theInca Trail , which I believe is multiple days — I did not do that reading . I did the eight - minute translation , and it ’s just prominent . It was the arrant amount of challenging , not necessarily technically , but challenge in terms of fittingness .
make it at Machu Picchu is one of those things where it ’s so celebrated , you ’ve seen the picture , but the images ca n’t train you at all for the majesty of it . Also , you realize you ’re calculate at something that there ’s no close second to . It ’s really one of a kind . You feel the history and the energy . There is really something inexplicable about it . And then of course , there ’s the bribe of having traveled so far for so long . It ’s not an easy trip .

I kind of felt that way withYosemite , too . It ’s a blank space , conversely , that is gentle to get to . You go to Yosemite , and you realise , ‘ I would jaunt for days to go to a position like this , ’ yet it ’s mighty in our backyard inCalifornia .
To me , it ’s one of the other wonders of the world , and it took me forever to get there — I do n’t think I got there until I was in my forties . It just absolutely blow my brain .

There ’s one other boost I did in theMasai MarainKenyathat was unbelievable . I went for a run and it was like a ambition . I ’m running , thinking , ‘ I ’m going to avoid that Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree line . I do n’t know what ’s in there , it could be regretful . ’ Then I look over and see giraffes . And as I ’m running toward the herd of Giraffa camelopardalis , I think , ‘ Oh , look at the wildebeest . ’ And then I ’m wish , ‘ That grass is a little tall . I ’m going to make certain I stay away . ’ Then I ran into a tearing hole and just threw myself in it and hoped there was n’t a crocodile . These are sentiment you ’re not going to think anywhere else on Earth .
Looking ahead , I ’m going to be hiking inJordan , Israel , and theValley of Kingsin Egypt . That promises to be an epical trip .
