The actor and comedian explores how to feel at home on the road.

For the first nine years of my career , I was on the road 45 to 50 calendar week a year . clubhouse , bars , Elks Lodges , whatever . Is there a microphone and money ? I ’ll see you there , sir , thanks for booking me . I put 300,000 miles on my first car . I drove that Ford Focus literally until the wheels fly off . Then I got a Kia Sorento and drive that one 250,000 knot . When I rent , I do n’t admit cars with out - of - state plates . That ’s the one thing that makes me uncomfortable and more susceptible to getting draw in over . I require arental carwith the tags of the state I ’m driving in , just in sheath .

It ’s inevitable that when you perform , you ’re blend in to learn every nook and cranny as you come back to place . I can , by memory board , go to a barbershop in Charleston , West Virginia , that used to be my smear to get a haircut when I was north of Tennessee . I ca n’t name the barbershop , but I can tell you the exit . My favorite place in a new town is always the mall . Malls are agnostic of demographics ; everybody goes . On the road , I used to write material in mall nutrient courts — get my Panda Express and people watch . So then I could go on stage and make references to what I saw , and the consultation would go , “ Wow , he really knows us . ”

Now that I have a Word and he ’s old enough to overleap me , I take fewer trips . But I still feel most at home on the road . To me , true calmness is ahotel roomin a strange place . I can travel more often now that I ’m not onThe Daily Showanymore . The preceding few month I ’ve been on a hitch with Jordan Klepper , another X - Daily Showcorrespondent , that we callAmerica for the Last Time . We telephone each other up—“Hey , do you want to go jackass off in a twosome of cities ? ”

If I ’m vaporize somewhere , I take the first flight out . The sheet is already there ; you ’re not wait on aircraft to fare in . The gang is for sure rest . On the mean solar day of a execution , taking the first flight out gives me more contingency pick if there are topic . That includes jumping to another toter . I ’ve been on aplane that was delayed , actively buying a ticket for another bearer because I knew they were about to deplane us . While everybody else is running and cry and screaming to client Robert William Service , I get to the lance .

Rapid fire

Window, middle, or aisle seat?

Window , so I can lean and get better rest . I ’m a leaner when I sleep , and I do n’t like leaning on other people , or list frontward . I do n’t believe inreclining my seat , either .

Pack light or overpack?

I do n’t wish not having stuff . I need to be ready for different scenarios . I ’m the guy who ’s going to bring acarry - on bagwith the zipper expander activated , and I have my backpack stuffed to the brim .

Favorite way to pass time on a plane

If I ’m not asleep , I ’m on a laptop computer or on my Nintendo Switch . I do n’t know who these people are who can just seat on a plane with no headphones , no TV , no nothing .

Biggest travel fear

It ’s not that I ’m frightened of a planer crash . I ’m scared of exit in a sheet clash where there ’s someone more celebrated than me on the airplane and then I do n’t get mentioned in the article . If a plane goes down , I do n’t want to be second charge . The worst would be if Klepper and I died in a plane wreck and the headline just said “ formerDaily Showcorrespondents . ”

Best tip for fighting jet lag

Do n’t take the nap when you land . Wait it out and go to bottom at the proper time , or perhaps an hour early on . You ’ve get to reset your clock .

Favorite travel snack

I like the Planters M&M ’s trail mix where it ’s just dotty and chocolate and raisins . And Smartfood Zea mays everta . Sweet and salty .

Go-to drink order on a plane

If anything , I might have a Coke with ice . I do n’t sympathise people on plane trying to regularize Long Island Iced Teas . No part of flight co-occurrence preparation is bartending , correct ?

Must-have travel items

I playMLB : The Show , Mario Kart , and a little bit ofRed Dead Redemption .

I ’ve fallen in love with Tumi luggage . It ’s stalwart and the repairs are spry when there ’s a bicycle topic or something .

I ’m a gadget bozo . I ’ve run through a deal of corduroys over the age . This is probably the sturdiest and does n’t fray or short .

The video is watch crystal - clear ; it ’s beautiful . I ’m search at new ways to do societal and POV endure - up clips from stage , things like that .

Ronny Chieng put me onto the concept of picture secret plan imitator . I ’ll represent games from means back in the day on my computer . That ’s a once - every - couple - of - week treat if I ’m catch up on work and writing .
