The Scottish actor and gin creator shares tips, tricks, and packing lists for all types of travel.

My love affair with change of location begin when I was 18 years sometime . I hold a unmarried flight to San Francisco with a haversack and stayed in hostels . I travel around the US by double-decker . I plump all down the West Coast on Greyhound and Green Tortoise autobus , then back up the East Coast . Every Clarence Day was an adventure . Then I went to Europe and journey the Baltic states . We Europeans wish to locomote .

More recently , I loved getting to shareSassenach Wild Scottish Gin(which was released this twelvemonth ) during my cotton gin launching around the States . It ’s a reflection ofScotland , of my hometown .

We didTales of the Cocktailin New Orleans , which was unbelievable . And then we start up to New York , one of my favorite cities , and my friends atChinese Tuxedocreated some cocktails for us . And I loved visiting Texas — great prevention , and their nutrient scene was amazing as well .

I loved blend in into minor bars in Houston or Austin and being able to sit down and talk with the barkeeper and be like , “ This is what I ’m passionate about , ” and to learn what they ’re passionate about . ordinarily they come in slimly apprehensive because they ’re like , “ Oh , here ’s another renown blade . ” But I think once they talk with me , they realize that I ’ve solve so hard , and it ’s a reflection of who I am .

Rapid fire

Window, middle, or aisle seat?

It has to be the window so I can lean my oral sex against the side , because I like to sleep . However , the aisle behind is always expert because you get to the bathroom , and they tend to serve you middling quickly .

Pack light or overpack?

I congratulate myself on being very pragmatic and minimalist . However , for some reason , my job always intend that I have to wear multiple outfit . And before you do it it , you ’ve been given two base that are filled with suits , and you ’ve got two font to pick out from . It ’s so thwarting . I ’m that eccentric of person who drop dead to the airport and wants to move as quickly as possible through security and straight to the gate . I want to be so effective , but it never happen .

Favorite way to pass time on a plane

As shortly as the engines are on , I ’m out . I diminish numb directly away . I do n’t get laid if it ’s the sound , but normally I lose the mockery . Later , when I wake up , I love to read . I bang the paper , I make out a crossword . And then , of course , once I ’ve failed at the crossword , I watch a movie .

Biggest travel fear

I recall it ’s probably being stuck at an aerodrome . I do n’t mind if my old bag go missing — absolutely fine , I ’m unspoiled with it . But being stuck in a farsighted demarcation at in-migration , that ’s a knotty one .

Best tip for fighting jet lag

I opine the best things to do are in all probability hydrate , not drink , get an other night ’s rest , do a workout . Do I do those thing ? Not really , as I like to enjoy myself on an aeroplane . But having said that , I also get so activated to get somewhere unexampled , so I just require to go out and explore wherever I am .

Favorite travel snack

I love affectionate nuts , not too salty . I always carry a protein bar with me because I kind of get thirsty at times . And I love a pretzel .

Go-to drink order on a plane

Gin and pop , hands down . It ’s a brisk , well-to-do drink . I feel like other cocktails do n’t really knead on the plane . And I always turn over on the vino — doesn’t do it for me .

Must-have travel items

Number one would be the My Peak Challenge bag that I make . It ’s just cool . I designed it so you’re able to do physical exertion with it . But it ’s also really comfortable , fashionable , and has loads of pockets . It ’s got water system bladders and you may take it up and use it as a weight to rise , golf shot , all kinds of cool thing .

A book is a good one . And there are plenty of books , includingClanlands . It ’s a account book that I wrote about my time inNew Zealand , so it ’s sort of a guidebook .

I always tamp my run shoes because it ’s a great way to get to know a Modern urban center , and you’re able to see any sites , bars , or restaurants that you ’re going to chatter later .   I impart these Brooks gels . They ’re just super comfy and I just lie with them .

I care to trip with a respectable watch . I have a Bremont watch — they are a British watch company with a great history . They are actually going to stockpile our gin in their salesroom so you’re able to go and wait at watches and drink .

When I go to a different country , I   grease one’s palms a bottleful of their spirit , whatever that is . Whenever I go to America , I   buy a nursing bottle of rye that I ca n’t get in the UK . It ’s alittle mementoand a footling gustatory perception from wherever I ’ve been . Recently , I was inSt . Kitts and Nevisand I got a beautiful bottle of rum .
